Breaking Down Box Office Numbers

No matter how many times the critics panned George Lucas' latest movie, "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" had the highest grossing opening weekend of the year at $101,000,000 and 10th highest of all-time. "Iron Man" had the previous high in 2008 at $98,618,668.
So, in four days, Indy 4 made $126,000,000. To put that amount in perspective, that's about HALF of "Iron Man's" TOTAL gross (which is $252,314,000 in 24 days).
But, that doesn't mean that "Iron Man" isn't doing well. It's doing VERY well. It was less than $3m short of second place after "The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian" dropped 58.2% from its opening weekend.
So far, the biggest disappointment of the summer is "Speed Racer." The movie cost $120m to make and in 17 days it has made only $60,813,000 if you COMBINE domestic and foreign totals.
"Speed Racer" is also officially making less money domestically than "What Happens in Vegas," "Made of Honor," "Baby Mama," "Forgetting Sarah Marshall," "The Forbidden Kingdom" and is barely above "Harold and Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay."

Got A New Acura TSX

The folks at Acura are pretty desperate to get their hands on used cars these days. With the economy as bad as it is, it looks like most people are going for cheaper secondhand cars instead of buying new ones.

I got a pretty good deal on a lease for a new Acura 2009 TSX with the technology package. I put basically nothing down and I'm paying the same per month as the TL. And at the end of the 4 year lease I have the option to buy.

The reason I'm upgrading is because I actually want a smaller car with better mileage and even MORE features. For a car that's about the same price as my old TL, I'm getting a navigation system (you'd be surprised how you can use this in Hawaii), an even better surround sound system (10 speakers) that plays in addition to DVD-Audio, DTS, and normal CDs can also play mp3/wma discs and uses Dolby PLII. It also comes with an iPod USB hookup.

Although I loved my TL, I felt I was driving a tank and paying a lot for gas. And I usually drive by myself, so I don't need all the space. I hope to keep this one in better condition. It has a better turning curve and is so far easier to park. I love the rear camera when I put it in reverse.

iPhone 2.0 Worldwide Launch on June 9th

The magazine WIRED says iPhone 2.0 will have a worldwide release on June 9. So, it looks like the new 3G iPhone is coming sooner than later. What really ticks me off is that it'll be launched on the same day I return to work after 2 weeks of vacation. I really wanted to get an iPhone to use for my trip to Portland.

I guess I can't blow all my money in Oregon.

I'm Getting An iPhone

I have decided I'm getting an iPhone. However, I will wait until Steve Jobs officially unveils the new 3G network iPhone, hopefully sometime in June.

Maybe I should wait a couple of weeks after that and there might be a price drop. ;o)

I actually don't use my cell phone a lot to talk with people.

And I would use the other functions like the internet, calendar, etc. if they actually functioned well on my current cell phone. I really like the idea of having the internet on the go. And having your iPod with you all the time is nice as well.

Really, it's not a phone. It's a toy. But a very sophisticated toy.

I wish I could buy it before I go on my trip to Portland on May 27th. But, I know the new iPhone won't come out by then. Oh well...
